Colombia - The Country, Where to Stay, and What to do?

Colombia, or República de Colombia, is located in the northwestern region of South America. Colombia is bordered to the east by Venezuela and Brazil, the south by Ecuador and Peru, the North by the Atlantic Ocean, and the west by Panama. Colombia is the 26th largest nation in the world and the fourth-largest in South America.

There are many things that Colombia has to offer to tourists and visitors of its land. If you do intend to join us in Colombia, and we hope that you will, and you plan to stay longer to tour some parts of this country we recommend you visit these links:

Another part of Colombia that is recommended for tourism is the island of San Andres. San Andres is a tropical island north of Colombia and off the coast of Nicaragua. The island is a part of the Colombian government and is very popular for tourists. Because it is an island and is remote from the mainland of Colombia it is considered to be very safe and is a very good vacation destination.

During our time in Colombia the wedding party will be staying at the Club Militar (Military/Officer's Club and Hotel) located in the country's capital, Bogota. The wedding reception will also be held here. You can find more pictures of the facilities at this website (in spanish, but links on there will show photos): http://www.clubmilitar.gov.co/fotosbogota.htm

There are other choices available for lodging if you choose to come however we would recommend you stay at this hotel or the Bogota Plaza Summit Hotel. This hotel is very nice but also costs considerably more. There are obviously many more accomodations in the city, however we would strongly discourage you from shopping on your own unless you are very fluent in Spanish and are familiar with the city and even the country. We will happily assist you in making your arrangements for your stay in Colombia, which will be required if you choose to stay at the Club Militar.

While Colombia is very beautiful and there are many things to do there, it is not considered to be one of the safest places of travel. That said, there are many things you can do that will keep you safe and allow you to enjoy your trip here. We do not want to discourage you from coming to join us, but you should be well informed about the country, your safety, and your ability to travel and have fun while here. If you come to Colombia and stay at one of the two hotels we have outlined and read the appropriate travel documents before coming, you will know everything you need to in order to be safe.

It is strongly recommended you read up about Colombia prior to your travel. It would be good before coming to keep informed on any major situations in the news in the country (as it is for ANY international travel). It is also encouraged that you read the Travel Warnings website from the U.S. State Department. Also good reading would include background information about the country found at good sources such as Wikipedia or the CIA World Factbook.

Plan to join us on our special day,
